Because with every step of every run I have to talk myself out of quitting. I have to set these itty bitty little goals just to stop myself from throwing in the towel… every run. Like, “I’ll just keep running for 10 more minutes and then see if I want to keep going” or “I’ll make it up this hill to that tree and then decide if I should continue” and 9.5 times out of 10 I keep going, I don’t give up, I finish my 40 minutes on the treadmill, or the 4 mile loop around my neighbourhood and it always feels so great to have met my teeny tiny goal.
I ran. I negotiated with myself. I conquered.
One foot in front of the other. It’s the only way.
But I am wondering how you pass trees on the treadmill? ;o)
